Friday Night 'Appy Hours: 5:30–6:30

Every Friday Night from 5:30 to 6:30, Silvercreek offers their "Bar Bites Appetizers" for half-price, and event entitled 'Appy Hour. Last Friday night I grabbed my date and decided to check it out. Here's what I surmised: This Friday night you should grab YOUR date and check it out.

Silvercreek's bar bites are not your standard bar fare. We ordered 3 plates to split:

Pommes frittes, hand cut shoestring potatoes with  sea salt and roasted garlic aioli for dipping.

Pork wings, in a golden barbecue sauce.

And a luscious Shrimp Cocktail.

We were melting with every bite we ate, and 3 appetizers ended up being enough food for us to call it dinner.

The grand total for all of the food we ordered: $10.00!!

Think about that! The two of us couldn't have gotten out of any greasy fast food joint in town for $10.

To boot, there was live music, The David Howie Live Jukebox Show! Howie was singing hits and favorites from over from the last 4 decades, at the requests of the 'Appy Hour guests.

The bartender was one busy lady while we were there. I watched her making this Bloody Mary, and remembered that Silvercreek makes their own Bloody Mary Mix.We had already placed our drink orders, but next time I'm going for the Friday night Bloody Mary!

Our beverage of choice, this time? Beer. There's over 100 to choose from,  and I decided to go wild and try one called Moose Drool. Big Sky Brewing Moose Drool Brown Ale, to be exact. I like a good dark beer in the wintertime, and this one was dark and very smooth. My Mister ordered a Kolsch from the Schlafly brewery, in St. Louis. We've visited that brewery and restaurant many times, so he knew this would be a winner.

We had a great time, with great food and drinks. I know I'm supposed to mix up the blog topics as I write, but I really want to come back this Friday night to try a few more of the Bar Bites. They're affordable, delicious, and a really fun way to wrap up a long week!

Click HERE for the entire Bar Bite menu. Keep in mind the prices  you pay Friday from 5:30 to 6:30 are half of what you'll see here.

Oooo, I'm thinking Tenderloin sliders...

Welcome to the Silvercreek Blog!

If you're from around here, you'll have heard about Silvercreek Restaurant. If you're not, you're in for a big treat. The restaurant, an abandoned sawmill restored by owner Allen Strong over 20 years ago, has a rich history in the community. It is located along the well-known Boneyard Creek, which has an even deeper historical background in Champaign County, and the state of Illinois.

Aside from the beauty and ambiance of the restaurant, the food at Silvercreek is amazing. No matter what you're you're hungry for—a quick sandwich, say, an Applewood Smoked BLT; a Friday night appetizer (1/2 price every Friday night); a light dinner (Caesar salad, with chicken or fish, perhaps); a stick-to-your-ribs meal (maybe the Pinot Noir Braised Shortribs) for dinner; or an expansive Sunday Brunch—Silvercreek delivers.

We know that you can find all of the information  you need to get yourself to Silvercreek on our website, where you can also take a gander at all of the menus.

We don't intend to replicate that information here. What we hope to do with the new blog is to give you a behind-the-scenes look at the restaurant. We hope to introduce you to a few new culinary delights, yes, but also to the people that create them, serve them, and eat them!

Did you know, for instance, that Silvercreek has its own bakery? And that they bake their breads from scratch every single day? Did you know that Silvercreek has its own herb garden? Did you know that Silvercreek shops at the local Farmer's Market and uses local produce and butchers whenever possible?

From here on out, we hope to shed some light on the all of the components—the staff, the building, the history, the cooking, the food—that make Silvercreek the landmark that it is in this community.
